The Vice-President Of The United Republic Of Tanzania, Dr. Philip Isdor Mpango Attends Stockholm+50' Conference
Stockholm+50 is an international meeting convened by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), from 2 -3 June 2022 in Stockholm, Sweden. The meeting commemorates 50 years since the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, which made the environment a pressing global issue.
On arrival, The Vice President Dr. Phillip Isidor Mpango was met by the Swedish Ambassador to Tanzania, H.E Anders Sjöberg and The Ambassador of Tanzania in Sweden H.E Grace Olotu.
During his speech, Dr. Mpango shared Tanzania’s initiatives in tackling environmental degradation which includes among other initiatives, protecting the countries natural forests, modernising the agricultural sector and preserving 307,800 square kilometers, which is equivalent to 32.5 per cent of the entire area earmarked for national parks and forests. On the fight against environmental degradation, Dr. Mpango said the matter still required more attention from all nations.
In strengthening cooperation between Tanzania and Sweden, The Vice President, accompanied by Ambassador Grace Olotu, had an audience with His Excellency Carl XVI Gustav the King of Sweden at the Stockholm Royal Palace.
The Vice President visited and paid respect to the Late Prime Minister Olof Palme’s grave at Adolf Fredriks Church in Stockholm.
The Vice President visited Scania Headquarters and witnessed technologies for the manufacture of gas-powered vehicles including solid waste gas used by car manufacturer Scania to reduce global warming.
The Vice President held talks with Scania’s director of sustainable automotive technology Mr. Jonas Strömberg and Scania’s head of sustainable transportation technology Mr. Fredrik Wijkander on increasing business cooperation in freight and passenger transport.
Scania commended Tanzania’s initiatives in tackling environmental degradation and improvement of the investment sector.
After the Stockholm +50 Conference, The Vice President, Hon. Philip Isdor Mpango Visits Tanzania House in Sweden and Meetings representatives of the Tanzania Community in Sweden
The Vice President, Hon. Philip Isdor Mpango accompanied by his delegation including the Tanzanian Ambassador to Kenya and Permanent Representative of Tanzania at UNEP and UN-HABITAT Dr. John Simbachawene visited the Embassy offices on 04 / June 2022. They were met by Ambassador Grace Olotu and held talks with the Embassy staff.
Vice President, Hon. Philip Isdor Mpango met and held talks with the leaders of the Tanzanian National and Regional Associations in Sweden.
