Often called "Africa’s Eden" and the "8th Natural Wonder of the World," this collapsed volcano (a “caldera”) is located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area . This is a natural sanctuary for thousands of birds, insects and animals such as lions, zebra, black rhino and wildebeest, all free to wander.

Visa applicants are invited to drop their applications at the Embassy in Stockholm or post by register.  

We wish to inform you that all payments should be made online/bank transfer into Embassy's Post Giro account and a receipt of payment must be attached to your applications from. Please add postage fee of SEK 120 for Sweden and SEK. 150 for all other countries. 

Applications without receipts for visa and postage fee payment and other attachments required depending on visa type, will not be attended.

Who Requires a VISA

All foreigners from non-commonwealth countries are required to have a valid visa unless their countries have visa abolition agreement with Tanzania. Exceptions: Citizens of Commonwealth countries are not required to obtain visa, unless they are citizens of the United Kingdom, Canada, Nigeria, India, Pakistan or The Republic of South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Citizens of the United States of America are issued a multiple entry visa (tourist and business) valid for one year. However, the list may change from time to time.

Visa for children Under 18 years of Age 

Children applying for visa and travelling alone or with another person other than their parents, a written consent of the parent is required including their birth certificates.

Types of VISA

There are various types of visas valid for entry into Tanzania:

1: Ordinary Visa

An Ordinary Visa is issued to enter Tanzania for the purpose of;

  • tourism, holiday (Visa type A1),
  • visiting friends and family (Visa type A2).

It is issued at any Tanzania Mission abroad or at any official entry point into Tanzania boarder. This type of visa is valid for 90 days and can be extended when you are in Tanzania.

2: Student Entry Visa:

Requirements are similar to ordinary visa, however a letter of invitation from the contact Institution in Tanzania should be attached to the application. If student will be doing research a Research Permit is required. It is also advisable to have a letter of introduction from host institution if student will be conducting interviews and taking pictures. This is Type C1 visa valid for 90 days. It is issued at any Tanzania Mission abroad or at any official entry point into Tanzania boarder and can be extended when you are in Tanzania.

3: Business & Meeting Visa:

Business visa (Type B visa) is issued to persons for the purpose of temporarily conducting business, feasibility studies, trade, meeting, professional or temporary assignment.

The Embassy requires a letter of invitation from their business contact in Tanzania or a cover letter from established company/organization/institution they are working for to introduce the applicant and nature of the trip. This should be sent in along with the application

This type of visa is valid for 90 days. It is issued at any Tanzania Mission abroad or at any official entry point into Tanzania boarder and can not be extended while in Tanzania. 

Entry to Tanzania for purposes of employment, long term studies, voluntary or missionary work or any other not related to above types of visa, a Resident and Work Permit is  required.

4: Multiple entry Visa:

Foreigners who, because of the nature of their family ties need to make frequent visits to Tanzania may be issued with Multiple- entry visa. Multiple entry visa is valid for six months or one year. This type of visa is no longer issued at the Embassy( except for Americans) for ordinary entries and for persons intending to conduct business, trade and meetings.

5: Double Entry Visa

This visa is issued for persons who qualify for type A1 or A2 (for purposes other than conducting Business) who wish to exit and re enter within 6 or 12 months. It is issued at any Tanzania Mission abroad or at any official entry point into Tanzania boarder.

6: Transit Visa (one/same day):

This is a permission to pass through Tanzania from one entry point to the exit point (visa type F). It is for the people whose purpose of their entry into Tanzania is simply to pass through to the other destination abroad without visiting. This type of visa is only issued to persons with onward tickets, sufficient funds for transit, and an entry visa to the country of destination or any proof that prior arrangements have been made that satisfy this requirement. Application requirements are similar to ordinary visa.

7: Gratis visa

Diplomatic/Official passport holders and Laissez-passer holders of the UN, SADC, AU and other International Organizations recognized by the United Republic of Tanzania will be granted gratis visa if they are travelling on official duties (must show evidence). When travelling on unofficial capacity, they are subject to pay prescribed fees when using  Lassez-passer or their National passports. It is issued at any Tanzania Mission abroad or at any official entry point into Tanzania boarder.

8. Other Types

  • This can be for various reasons or any other activity legally recognized by the law.other than types listed above (Type C4),
  • Health/treatment (Type Cs),
  • Official (Visa type E),
  • Diplomatic (Visa Type D)  

 It is issued at any Tanzania Mission abroad or at any official entry point into Tanzania boarder.

9: Referral visa

These are some countries which their nationals require entry visa permission from the Director of Immigration Services or the assistant Director of Immigration Services in Tanzania prior to issuance of the visa. The following countries are required to apply for referred visa: 

Afghanistan
Abkhazia
Azerbaijan
Bangladesh
Chad
Djibouti
Ethiopia
Eritrea
Equatorial Guinea
Kazakhstan Republic
Kyigten Republic
Lebanon
Mali
Mauritania
Niger
Palestine
Senegal
Somalia
Sri Lanka
Somali land
Sierra Leone
Tajikistan
Turkmenistan and
Stateless persons or persons with refugee status
and any other nationalities as may be specified from time to time by the authorities

This type of visa is not issued directly by a Tanzania Mission abroad or at any official entry point into Tanzania boarder.

Persons in need of this type of visa may make enquiries at the Embassy. Decision to grant entry visa to referred visa applicants is made at the Immigration Headquarters in Dar es Salaam Tanzania. However, the application is forwarded by the Tanzania Embassy in Stockholm.

Applicants are required to fill in visa application form and attach

 

  • Invitation letter from host person/ institution and introductory letters from employer if it is a business related visit.
  • two passport photos,
  • photocopies of their passport 
  • Copy of passport or ID of host person or profile of Institution
  • Copy of resident permit of applicant where applicable.
  • Hotel booking/ or any other confirmation of accommodation - with clear address
  • Copy of travel booking
  • Contacts/Address of Host( House number, street name and telephone numbers  

 

The applicant is required to clearly state reason for entry to Tanzania, show his/her contacts in Tanzania and in Sweden. We highly recommend not to buy any flight ticket, confirm appointments or make advance booking payments in Tanzania until your visa is approved. The waiting time for approval is three months or more for such applications to be processed.

When the decision is made in Dar es Salaam, the Embassy in Stockholm will inform the applicant. If the decision is positive, the applicant is supposed to pay for visa fee and to submit his/her original passport to the Embassy for stamping the visa permit This type of visa is valid for 90 days

Entry points

Entry points to the United Republic of Tanzania, i.e. Namanga, Tunduma, Sirari, Horohoro, Kigoma Port, Julius.K. Nyerere International Airport (JKNIA), Kilimanjaro International Airport, Zanzibar Harbour and Zanzibar International Airport (ZIA) and Other Gazzeted Entry Points.

2. Your application may be submitted by hand or by post (registered mail) together with your passport 

3. Your passport must have 6 months’ validity from the date of departure from Tanzania and must be in good condition

4. One recent passport sized photograph

5. Evidence of visa and postage fee.

6. Business, Meeting, Study and religious activities requires an invitation letter or a cover letter signed by the institution,

       company/organization you are working for confirming the purpose of the visit.

Visa fees (in SEK.) are as follows; 

Transit Visa                                                                                                        300.00

Ordinary Visa/Tourist/student visa (Valid for 3 Months)                               500.00

Double Entry Visa (Ordinary Visa valid for 6 months)                            1000.00

Business/Meeting/Conference Visa- Valid for Three Months               2500.00 

 (American Citizens are granted multiple entry visas valid for one year) 1000.00

If you send your application by post, include a postage fee of SEK 120  for Sweden and SEK 150 for all other countries. Your passport will be returned registered unless otherwise advised. If more passports are to be sent together please estimate using the amount paid when sending to us.

Above fees are for all ages and Nationals of all countries except citizens of the United States of America.
