The Embassy has observed that Diasporas and NGOS working in Tanzania frequently send inquiries regarding tax payments and tax exemptions for goods sent to Tanzania.

TRA has issued a booklet that explains the current procedures. The booklet  provides information on:

  • The type of goods which are allowed in free of duty,
  • Institutions which are eligible,
  • How to avoid delays in clearance and
  • The application of the regulations for cross border imports from Kenya or Uganda.

This booklet is titled "Tax Rights and Obligations to Tanzanian Diaspora" which was published in March 2010. More details on tax issues and import dutied for different kinds of goods is available on the TRA website www.tra.go.tz
