The cooperation between Folk High Schools in Sweden and the Folk Development Colleges in Tanzania was establishment way back in the in the 1970's. An organised network of relations was established in the form of twoKARIBU Associations (swahili: karibu=welcome), one in Sweden and the other in Tanzania.

An African and a Swedish museum that enjoy a long-term collaboration based on mutual exchange are referred to as twin museums. The twins maintain constant contact via e-mail but they also meet regularly. They plan, conduct and evaluate projects together. All parts of the museum and museum staff of all categories take part in the exchange. The long-term nature of the collaboration is essential to developing the understanding and the mutual trust that are necessary in SAMP collaboration. All types of museums can become twin museums. A broad base is necessary for developing the SAMP idea that international exchange should be a source of mutual renewal.

The friendship agreement was signed in December 2003. The purpose of the agreement is to

• Promote friendship and understanding between the people of  the Municipal of Strängnäs and the people of Simanjiro District.

• Stimulate the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of local government.

• Create contacts between the people of the Municipal of Strängnäs and the people of Simanjiro District.
• Give opportunity of each people to exchange knowledge and experience in different areas.

The first agreement between the two schools was signed in November 2002, when four teachers and school leaders were in Arusha. Since then a second visit was made to Arusha by two Swedish teachers while four teachers from Arusha School visited Hagabodaskolan in September 2004. Now in February 2005 a group of 11 students in grade 8 and 4 teachers from Hagabodaskolan  visited Arusha School.

Different parts of the project:

• A pen friend project with about 500 students involved. This is the basis of the project.
• The teachers- and student exchange project, with the next phase planned to take place 2007.
• An intercultural part, helping many students in both schools to learn more about culture, politics and social conditions in Sweden and Tanzania. This will be made easier by the new internet connection at Arusha School, supported by Hagabodaskolan.
• An internet part, in which Hagabodaskolan has so far been the host of the Arusha School web site.
• A solidarity project, arranged together by the two schools, with the purpose to support a centre for street children in Arusha, CHISWEA.
  

Katedralskolan in Linköping has regular student exchanges with schools in other countries including Schools in Morogoro Tanzania. Other activities in this friendship and exchange is language teaching and a number of cross-curricular projects. 

The friendship association started in 1987 and it is a non-political and non-religious organization that on behalf of the county of Eskilstuna handles all contacts with Usangi. The goal of this friendship is to create a lasting connection between the people of Usangi and Eskilstuna. For more information please visit http://www.usangi.com 

The World Heritage site of Visby, Gotland in Sweden hs a twinning arrangement with the Zanzibar Stone Town. The aim of this twinning is for mutual benefits and interchange of experiences regarding conservation, awareness promotion, tourism and urban development.

In 2003, Diseröds Skola and Usalule School in Njombe started a friendship in order to create contact between children in Tanzania and in Sweden. The aim is to increase awareness and understanding for different cultures and way of life. The plan is to continue the cultural exchange between students and teachers in the two countries. They have an agreement to visit each other provided there are financial resources to do so.
