 Getting Married Abroad and Getting Married in Tanzania

When a citizen of The United Republic of Tanzania desires to contract a marriage with a citizen of another country, a certificate of no impediment is needed if the law of that country requires him/her to produce  one. This certificate is proof that no legal impediment to the intended marriage is known to the responsible authority in Tanzania (Registrar - General of Marriages).

The Embassy does not issue such certificates but is mandated to endorse and  forward forms for application of certificates for no impedment (RGM. 12 ) directly to;

When the certificate is issued, the applicant is supposed to bring it to the Embassy for endorsement. Fee for endorsement is SEK 200 per document.

Getting Married in Tanzania

If you live abroad and wish to get married in Tanzania please read the procedures here and follow what is  applicable to Tanzanians

Requests for renunciation of citizenship are received by the Embassy of Tanzania in Stockholm and forwarded to the Immigration Office, Ministry of Home Affairs in Tanzania. This process takes not less  than two months. The applicant will be informed of the decision by the Embassy. The applicant is welcome to make a follow up of the request directly to the Immigration Office in Tanzania on telephone number  00 255 222118637/40/43.

Fee for processing is SEK 1000.00 ( one thousand) SEK 90.00 for postage. If the fee is paid to Tanzania Embassy's Post Giro Account:  Address: NDEASESS and International Bank Account Number (IBAN): SE2895000099604210374718. Evidence/receipt of payment must be attached to the application form.

The applicant must fill in two original copies of the application form [Renunciation Form ]. The form is signed by a Magistrate or a Commissioner of Oaths (The commissioner for oaths is a person who is authorized to receive oaths. He or she can be a person appointed by the Minister of Justice or can be by virtue of their status e.g. court clerks and assistant court clerks, lawyers, notaries).

Other requirements are 3 passport sized photos, Tanzanian passport and a letter of offer of new citizenship (it must be translated in English).
