VISA Application Procedures Visitors to Tanzania from the Nordic countries and Baltic States are strongly advised to get their visas before departure either from the Embassy of Tanzania in Stockholm or the Tanzanian Consulate in Denmark . If you wish to apply for visa, complete and sign a visa application form which you can Download HERE (word) (pdf) Applicants making application from Denmark can obtain application forms and application procedures from the Tanzania Consulate in Denmark. You should check with the Embassy whether they are able to process your category of application. If they cannot, they will advise you accordingly. Your application form may be submitted by hand or by post (registered mail) together with: - Your passport (must have 6 (six) months validity from the date of departure from Tanzania and must be in good condition.
- One recent passport-sized photograph; and
- Evidence of payment of visa fee and postage
Visa fees are as follows SEK 1000.00 for Business visa SEK 1000.00 for Double Entry Visa SEK 500.00 for single entry visa (valid for 3 months) for all other types of visa except temporary assignment. Above fees are for all ages and Nationals of all countries except Pakistan which is SEK 2000.00 for any of the above. Payment is always in advance either, in cash or credit to our Bank (NORDEA) Account Number (Plus Giro nr.) 103 7471-8 (for paying customers within Sweden). Payments made outside Sweden, applicants can use the following Bank Identification Code (BIC/Swift) Address: NDEASESS and International Bank Account Number (IBAN): SE2895000099604210374718 (no space). Credit card payments and Cheques are not accepted. Only cash payments are accepted at the Embassy. Please note and observe the following: - The Passport must have 6 (six) months validity from the date of departure from Tanzania.
- If you send your application by post, include a postage fee of SEK 90. Alternatively you may send a self-addressed registered envelope. Your passport will be returned registered unless otherwise advised.
- Single entry visa (entry permit for tourists, friends and family visa) is valid for THREE (3) months. Application for extensions can only be made in Tanzania.
- For Business Visa, a letter from an established company will be required to introduce the applicant, the nature of the trip and the business contact in Tanzania. This visa is not extendable while in Tanzania.
- Application for normal visa should be made not more than one month before travelling and visa is valid from date of issue.
- Application for refered visa should be made not less than 6 weeks before travelling
- Ensure to send your duly filled application with a receipt of fee payment, passport and one passport size photograph.Take into consideration your travel date and post delivery time from you to us.
- The Embassy normally takes three days to process the visa application
MORE Visa information Entry Requirements Foreigners seeking to enter the United Republic of Tanzania should be in the possession of valid passports or any other travel document. The passport or any other travel document is to be presented to the Immigration Control Officer at any entry point, such as Border station, Airport or Harbour. The travel document must be presented along with one of the following: - A valid visa
- A residence permit or
- A pass
N.B: A visitor must also present an onward or return ticket together with proof that he/she has sufficient funds to support himself or her self while in Tanzania. Purpose of a VISA A visa is a permission granted to a foreigner who intends to enter into Tanzania for business, holiday, studies or conduct research or any other approved activities. Visas should be obtained at Tanzania Embassies/High Commissions abroad or at the entry point. After entering country, the visitor with a visa may then obtain from the Immigration Control Officer, a pass or any other authority to stay in the country. Who Requires a VISA All foreigners from no-Commonwealth countries are required to have a valid visa unless their countries have visa abolition agreement with Tanzania. Exceptions: Citizens of Commonwealth countries are not required to obtain visa, unless they are citizens of the United Kingdom, Canada, Nigeria, India, Pakistan or The Republic of South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. However, the list may change from time to time. Types of VISA There are five types of visas valid for entry into Tanzania: Ordinary Visa An Ordinary Visa is permit issued to enter Tanzania for Touirsts, holiday makers and for family visits. It is issued at any Tanzania Mission abroad or at any official entry point into Tanzania boarder. Business Visa Business visa is issued to prospective visitors who intend to visit Tanzania for purposes of making feasibility studies, establishing professional and business contacts, and making arrangements for investments during the start-up period. This type of visa is valid fro three months and can not be extended while in Tanzania. Multiple entry Visa Foreigners who, because of the nature of their business, investments or family ties need to make frequent visits to the United Republic of Tanzania may be issued with Multiple- entry visa. Mutltiple entry visa is valid for six months. The Embassy requires evidence of the kind of business, investment or family ties and the need for applicant to make frequent visits, A letter of invitation from their business contact company/institution in Tanzania sent in along with the application will be helpful.
Referred Visa A referred visa requires a permission of the Director of Immigration Services or the assistant Director of Immigration Services in Zanzibar. This type of a visa is required for the nationals of the following countries: Sri Lanka, Lebanon, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Chad, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Morocco, Afghanistan, Somalia, Mauritania, Abkhazia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Somali Land, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Djibouti, Sierra Leone, Palestine and for refugees, stateless people and any other nationalities as may be specified from time to time by the authorities. Persons in need of this type of visa may make enquiries at the Embassy. Decision to grant entry visa to Tanzania to Nationals of above countries and holders of Alien Passports in Nordic countries and Baltic States is made at the Immigration Headquarters in Dar es Salaam Tanzania. However the application is forwarded by the Tanzania Embassy in Stockholm. Applicants are required to fill in visa application form and attach two passport photos, photocopies of the the first five pages of passport, proof of fee payment and postage and invitation letters or introductory letters where applicable. The applicant is required to clearly state reason for entry to Tanzania, show his/her contacts in Tanzania and in Sweden. It therefore takes two months or more for such applications to be processed. When the decision is made in Dar es Salaam, the Embassy in Stockholm will inform the applicant. If the decision is positive, the applicant is supposed to submit his/her original passport to the Embassy for stamping the visa permit.
Transit Visa A Transit Visa is a permission to pass through Tanzania from one entry point to the exit point. It is for the people whose purpose of their entry into Tanzania is simply to pass through to the other destination abroad without visiting. This type of visa is only issued to persons with onward tickets, sufficient funds for transit, and an entry visa to the country of destination or any proof that prior arrangements have been made that satisfy this requirement. Application requirements are similar to ordinary visa. Student Entry Visa
Students entry visa requirements are similar to ordinary visa, however a letter of invitation from the contact Institution in Tanzania should be attached to the application. If student will be doing reseach a Research Permit is required. It is also advisable to have a letter of introduction from host institution if student will be conducting interviews and taking pictures. Entry to Tanzania for purposes of employment, long term studies, voluntary work or any not related to above types of visa a Resident and Work Permit is required. Entry points Entry points to the United Republic of Tanzania, i.e. Namanga, Tunduma, Sirari, Horohoro, Kigoma Port, Julius.K. Fees must be paid in local currency (i.e. the currency of the country in which the visa is being processed.)
